“We are disappointed in the CSU Board of Trustees decision to increase tuition by 6 percent a
year over the next five years. Students of color, specifically Black students, already face the
astounding burden and long term implications of student loan debt which continue to
exacerbate the racial wealth gap,” said Rick Callender, President of the NAACP California
Hawaii State Conference. “The burden of making sure faculty are paid fairly shouldn’t be borne
solely by the students. We stand in complete solidarity with the California State Student
Association and the California Faculty Association. This is not representative of the California
that we are proud of, the California that centers diversity in California universities and racial and
economic justice for all students.”
