October is here, and with it comes an important moment for our NAACP California Hawaii family.
From October 22–25, we will gather in Long Beach for the 39th Annual NAACP California Hawaii State Convention under the theme, “We the People: Will Not Be Deterred.”
Let me be clear: our Convention is more than an annual gathering. It is an opportunity for branches, members, youth, leaders, advocates, and community partners to come together, strengthen our collective work, and prepare for the challenges ahead.
During the Convention, we will hear from US Senators, Congressional leaders, Statewide elected officials, address the issues affecting our communities, participate in advocacy and leadership development, create space for our Youth & College members, and celebrate those whose service has advanced the movement. We will also honor civil rights attorney John L. Burris at our 16th Annual Legacy Hall of Fame Awards Dinner.
As we prepare for the November 3 General Election, our responsibility is clear. We must be informed, engaged, and active. Protecting civil rights, defending our democracy, and expanding opportunity requires sustained participation, strong local leadership, and a commitment to ensuring that our communities are heard.
We cannot afford to sit this one out. The work continues in our branches, in our communities, and at the ballot box.
I look forward to seeing you in Long Beach. Let us use this Convention to connect, learn, organize, and return to our communities ready to do the work ahead.
We the People. We Will Not Be Deterred.
Yours in the fight,
Dr. Rick L. Callender, Esq.
