We have just returned from the 117th NAACP National Convention in Chicago, Illinois, where the energy was undeniable, the commitment was unwavering, and the message was clear: We the People must continue to stand together. This year’s National Convention theme, “We the People,” reminded us that our collective voice, collective action, and collective commitment to justice remain at the heart of the NAACP movement.
I am especially proud to share that the NAACP California Hawaiʻi State Conference was once again recognized on the NAACP national stage, earning First Place in both Publications and Programs through the Thalheimer Awards, the NAACP’s highest honor for State Conferences. This marks the fifth consecutive year that our Conference has earned national recognition for the excellence of our work.
As we prepare for our 39th Annual State Convention, we carry the momentum of the National Convention forward with our own influential declaration: “We the People: Will Not Be Deterred.” This is more than just a theme – It is a commitment to action. Across California and Hawaiʻi, we continue to confront challenges to voting rights, educational equity, economic opportunity, racial justice, and equal opportunity. We recognize the challenges before us, but we also recognize the strength we possess when we stand together.
I extend my sincere gratitude to our Branch Presidents, officers, committee chairs, Youth & College advisors, volunteers, sponsors, and every member whose dedication continues to strengthen this Conference. Your commitment embodies the enduring spirit of the NAACP and inspires hope for future generations.
As we move forward, let us remember that our greatest strength lies not in any one individual, but in our collective voice and shared purpose. We the People have always been the driving force behind progress, and together, we will not be deterred
Thank you for your continued leadership, service, and unwavering commitment to justice.
Yours in the fight,
Dr. Rick L. Callender, Esq.
President, NAACP California Hawai’i State Conference
